General Land Office Maps
The GLO provides the public with land and lease information about state-owned submerged lands. The GLO also has historical county maps showing the boundaries of the original land grants. Beginning in the early 1840s, most of the county maps were compiled and drawn by draftsmen at the TGLO and copied by hand.

Railroad Commission Maps
As part of its mandate to regulate the drilling and production of the oil and gas industry in Texas, the Railroad Commission maintains maps showing historical, current and proposed well locations. In the past, manually drawn maps were used. These maps become worn and overcrowded with handwritten data. The original hardcopy well maps are retained for researching older wells.

Banks has access to one of the largest collections of historical maps in the United States, dating back to the 1800s.
